By Josh Witsman

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kansas, July 28, 2007 - Tragedy strikes Saturday morning as two kids are killed on the way to a family gathering. One of the kids is the daughter of a Wellington Police officer.

The accident happened just before 11:30 Saturday morning at the intersection of 119th Street South and Broadway. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a pick-up truck driven by 45 year old Lanny Carter of Salina was east bound on 119th Street when it failed to stop and hit a SUV heading North on Broadway.

The impact of the crash killed 11 year old Thomas Alexander of Louisiana and 10 year old Katherine Treadway of Wellington. Treadway is the daughter of a Wellington Police Officer.

Troopers say 2 of the other people in the SUV were transported to a Wichita hospital in serious condition.

"They are all related, they're all family," Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Phil Bostian said. "They were on their was to a family event when this occurred."

The driver of the pick-up who blew the stop sign walked away with minor injuries. So far no citations have been issued.
