WICHITA, Kansas (KSN) -- When it comes to raising kids, it's not just the little ones who sometimes need guidance. Moms often have a lot of questions and don't know where to turn. That's why a Wichita group is creating a support network and holding an open house this week to get the word out.
It's here on the playground these local moms figure out some of their biggest parenting issues.
"Eating habits, potty-training, what preschools to go to, what kids-day-out programs to go to," said Jennifer McVey, a mother of two. "Just having that wealth of information from people who have been there and done that. It's been invaluable."
But these women might never have met, if not for the group "Mothers & More". Some work full-time at an office, others in the trenches at home. But all have two things in common-- children and the need for a little camaraderie.
"I don't have any family here so it's just a great support group," McVey said.
More than a hundred members across Sedgwick County take turns organizing activities for the kids, as well as outings just for the moms.
"Keeps your sanity actually!" said McVey.
Whether it's a book club, financial investment workshop, or just chatting by e-mail, such networking is catching on across the nation. Groups like "Mothers and More" bring together women with similar interests and concerns.
"It kind of rejuvenates you, refreshes you," said Tracy Eberhardt, co-leader of the group. "You just end up being a better mom that way."
Sharing those funny and frustrating moments is a therapy these women say you cannot underestimate; keeping the fun in the serious business of parenting.
"I probably wouldn't be staying at home as long as I have," said stay-at-home mom Kimberly Day. "It's just been a great support group for me and my daughter, and I don't know what I'd do without it."
If you'd like more information on "Mothers and More," you can attend their open house at the Hawker Beechcraft Activity Center this Thursday at 7pm.
