WICHITA, Kansas - Heavy rainfall from the north left some parts of Highway 50 in Harvey County closed for most of the day, and officials are urging drivers to be cautious.
Out at Highway 50 and Ridge just east of Emma Creek, water levels reached almost to the top of the twin bridges.
The sheriff's office blocked off the road after several drivers attempted to pass through with no luck.
One car was involved in a minor accident, and a second was stuck in the ditch.
Crews are not sure when the water is going to recede, but they're asking drivers to not take the risk of driving through it tonight.
"If they see it, then turn around and don't drown. So, they need to do that, do not feel the need to drive through. You do not know if the road or the surface is washed out," said Lon Buller, Harvey County Emergency Management Director.
Harvey County will keep an eye on the flooding situation.
They're hoping the water levels will go down later, but that's going to be up to nature.
