HUTCHINSON, Kansas - A Reno County County jail inmate who was in court Wednesday afternoon attacked a prosecutor.
It happened around 2 p.m according to Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson.
Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Sherman was in court for sentencing on one count of aggravated criminal sodomy.
The judge had sentenced Sherman to 25 years to life under Jessica's Law.
Sherman was standing at the defense table when the judge ordered him and his attorney to sit down.
As a jail deputy moved away, Sherman lunged five feet on top of prosecutor Keith Shroeder who was sitting at another table.
Sherman, who was restrained in leg irons and belly chain, was immediately subdued by the jailer.
Schroeder received a slight abrasion to his forehead during the attack.
Sherman was taken back to the Reno County Jail.
