Victim identified after car found submerged in Arkansas River

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the victim of Sunday's fatal car submersion as 18-year-old Lexus Lemuz.

KHP Trooper Thomas Case says they were dispatched to the area of K-96 and N. West St. around 7:30 a.m.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that vehicle one was traveling eastbound on K-96, for unknown reasons, went off the roadway, striking a guard rail, and vaulting off the embankment into the river," said Trooper Case.

Trooper Case says they are unsure right now if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

"At this point, everything is still under investigation, we do have confirmed one fatality in the vehicle," said Trooper Case.

Kansas Highway Patrol, the Wichita Police Department and the Sedgwick County Fire Department responded to the crash.
