SUMNER COUNTY, Kansas – Four people from the Wichita area are dead and two young children are orphans after a horrific crash on the Kansas Turnpike Wednesday night.

Troopers say an SUV driven by 39-year-old Michael Minor, of Sedgwick, tried to make a U-turn on I-35 a couple miles from the Oklahoma state line when the SUV was struck by a semi. Along with Minor, two young couples were inside the SUV.

Chad Kingsley, 27, was one of the four killed. His family tells KSN he was riding in the SUV with his girlfriend, 22-year-old Johnettte Grimes, who was also killed. The young couple leaves behind a two-year-old child and seven-week-old infant.

Nicole Shain, 23 also died. Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Michael Meyer, remains in serious condition at Wesley Medical Center.

Meyer and Minor also have two young children.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

This was truely a tragic accident. Four lives were lost and two very young children no longer have their parents. I hope those babies have family that will take them in and love them because they will need all the love they can get. My father is a semi driver and he has seen too many wrecks like this. Most people try to blame the semi driver, but what they don't realize is big vehicals (like 18-wheelers) can't stop very fast at all. It can take up to a football field for them to stop. They also have huge blind spots on either side and behind them. That is why they have stickers that say "If you can't see my mirrors, then I can't see you". Please, everyone remember they are much bigger than you. Stay out of their way and stay safe.

menmy3---yes accidents happen to people that follow and obey every traffic law and rule that is what happened to the truck driver. It really erks me when people do U-Turns on restricted access roads. Trust me it is NEVER worth the time saved by not going to the next exit.

It is a terrible accident and I feel so sorry for the kids that are left behind. I also feel for the semi driver involved. I would imagine he will have a hard time after this. Will always wonder the big, what if, question.

theresamarie-- you are insensitive and heartless and if you voodoo agree with him/her you're insensitive too. Accidents happen everyday, and they happen to people who obey every law and traffic rule. You should really think before you post comments like those, the families of these people are reading this and they have enough grief, anger, and emotions to deal with without ignorant people adding insult to injury. Same something positive or do say anything at all. To the familes of Mike, Chad, Lindsay, Netta, and Michael, God bless you and know there are people who truely care about you.

Theresamarie's comment wasn't heartlesss, it's just the sad, cold truth. I don't think it was meant negatively, it's just very sad. My husband used to work for a wrecking company and it never gets any easier to see such tragedy. I am praying for these families and their young children.
