WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita’s aircraft workers hope there’s still strength in numbers as they rally to save Kansas jobs.

Workers rallying in Old Town say they are tired of giving and need to get something back. They are in the middle of negotiations with Cessna and Hawker Beechcraft. KSN is told those negotiations are going down to the wire and they will have to vote on the 18th.

The focus of the rally is on jobs and keeping job security. Union representatives said negotiations are tough right now.

“We have opened negotiations to see if we can keep that plant open, save that facility,” said Steve Rooney with District Machinists union Local #70. “We're in a tough fight here. We're having to compete not only against our jobs leaving and going out of this country but other states trying to steal them.”

Many of those out of several hundred that showed up tell KSN they don’t like the idea of a strike, but they do want to get their point across to management.

The union president says he needs help keeping jobs in Kansas and he hopes Governor Mark Parkinson will get involved next week. State incentives have already helped keep work at Learjet in Wichita.

I agree P, unions have caused many employees to be plumb worthless. Unions continue to fight for more wages, and more benefits while every company is struggling just to keep the doors open. Employees should be willing to take a pay cut if necessary until things get a little better. It is better to have a job and be a little under paid. than to be fighting the proverbial unemployment line. If I were to work at an aircraft plant right now I would certainly dump the Union and work my butt off to prove to the company that I am on their side, and understand the tough time they are going through. And would try to prove myself an asset worth keeping around. I wouldn't be caught dead crying at a union meeting that I want more money during these times. Although I do agree that it sucks that these companies are having such a tough time and their higher ups are still raking in tons of money for holding their chairs down.

When you start working for and representing your employer instead of the union, you may be able to keep your job. Your unions have sold you right into the unemployment lines. If all you have to go on is a high school education, don't expect to make $50-$60K per year. That's a bit unrealistic. Better yet, take the risk and start your own company and let your union employees suck you dry. I don't need a union to represent me because I've made myself valuable to my employer.

The way the union people think is that with the union standing behind them , YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!! Maybe not all but listen to these people. Quit if you don't like it because there is always someone that will fill your shoes!!!Too many qualified people unemployed right now and would be grateful to have a job.So don't fool yourselves because the unions bargaining power has really went downhill.Practically all businesses are struggling now so with people saying give me and I deserve all the time, instead of trying to tighten their belts and help the companies strengthen itself so that you can have a job and keep these places in the UNITED STATES and in WICHITA!!Striking will not help you workers keep There will hopefully be a time to demand again but for right now it's scary. They hired you to work for them not the other way around!!!

This is in the hands of the union people now. What you want and what Cessna is willing to do is on the line. I imagine that they are hurting the same as all the other large Aircraft Mfg's.People have to start buying before profits go up.If you strike it will hurt you the most and sway Cessna just like HawkerBeechcraft and many others. Money matters to them the same as to the workers.I know how the recession is effecting everyone because I work for a mfg.company that makes instruments & misc for all these companies.we've lost our vacation/holiday pay and raises and it's no telling when we will get all this back. But I would rather have a job than have some of those things because I can live on my paycheck.Sure I wish I had at least the vacation pay but!!!!!! AND 51GOPHER I AGREE WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!!!But it is the companies fault for hiring at those wages!!

Now when are we going to outlaw the CEO's that are greedy? When they draw millions on top of their perks even if a company is losing money. Who is really cutting the throats of a company?

Whine, whine, whine. Probably will whine even more when all our aerospace leaders decide the Wichita workers are too greedy and move elsewhere. Oh, wait, that is already happening... There is a large % of people without jobs and barely making and of of course our aero workers will whine because they "do not have enough job security". Welcome to the REAL world. I seriously cannot wait for the day when unions are abolished because they are single handedly cutting the throats of corporations. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you...
