GREAT BEND, Kansas – The so-called ‘person of interest’ jailed in Barton County is now charged in the brutal death of 14-year-old Alicia DeBolt, who was murdered last month in Great Bend.

Longoria could face lethal injection if convicted in the killing. He has now been officially charged with capital murder and criminal sodomy.

Longoria returned to court this morning – this time with a court appointed attorney. His only response today was a “yeah” to the judge when asked if he understood that he now faces the additional charges. He’s also charged with burglary and theft for allegedly stealing an SUV from his employer, Venture Corporations, outside of Great Bend just days after Alicia’s body was found at the business.

No additional details were released about the murder. Attorney General Steve Six says it’s important for his office to remain tight-lipped about the case.

“Certainly there’s no more serious case than a capital murder case, they are heavily scrutinized as you all know and we just prefer to allow an opportunity to tell you about the charges and some of the proceedings, but really all the details will be set forth in open court and you’ll have to pick them up that way,” Six said.

Alicia’s family tells KSN that the Attorney General’s Office has requested they not comment on the case on camera. Off camera, however, they say having someone charged in her murder is making dealing with her death a little easier.

Alicia was set to start high school as a freshman this year. Her former classmates say her death has cast a grim shadow over the start of the school year.

“It’s been real hard on everyone,” said classmate Cody Arnold. “Everyone’s all depressed. Certain things just bug people – it just sets them off.”

A telephone conference on Friday between the judge and the attorneys on the case will determine the schedule for Longoria’s preliminary hearing and arraignment. The Attorney General’s Office has until Longoria’s arraignment to decide if they will seek the death penalty in the case.

Six says his office believes Longoria acted alone in the sexual assault and murder of Alicia DeBolt and doesn’t expect to arrest anyone else in the case.

Longoria’s bond was raised from $150,000 to $1.5 million.

Lets let the courts and Attorney Generals office make sure this animal pays. It is now time to heal the kids of Great Bend. What must be going through their minds is awful. They are hurting, struggeling and it is time for us as parents, commuinty members and school faculity to do everything in our power to help these kids. They are not only grief stricken but in shock. Lets turn our energy to helping our kids now.

Very sad that a guy like this, who might prefer being in prison, may get just that for the rest of his life. If it is a cut and dry case, the death penalty should be rapid. There has been no speculation of how she might have ended up with Longoria that night, or who she left the house with at 11:00 PM. I suppose that is all a good thing and will come out publicly during the trial.

Sadly true Gopher. Justice is a slow, decrepid process. Guess it was designed to pick the 1/1000 innocent man out of the 999 guilty. And as infuriating as it is that one innocent man exists in some places as DNA has proved. Just hard when you here what these guys are up to while they bide their time. These guys may end up out-living the majority of us. I am only 40.

As much as it appears that he is guilty I think we have to be realistic and realize that even if convicted he won't ever be put to death. If we can't even execute people like the Carr's then does anybody really think we will execute Longaoria? All he will do is go through decades of appeals and never get anything done.

It is now very improtant that all i's are dotted, t's are crossed and all is done by the book. Law enforcement must be allowed to do their job properly and he must get a fair trial. They say that the accused have more rights than the victims' families and sometimes this seems true. They are wise to say little at this point and I am more than happy to give them the time they need to insure justice is served. Thanks Law Enforcement in Barton County and Kansas. I know this has not been nor will it be easy and your hard work has not gone unnoticed.

This makes me literally sick, just like so many other senseless murders. I hope they fry him, we taxpayers are sick of his kind, sick of it!!!! Whatever the sentence it will not equal what he has done to this young girl and her family, the worthless basta$$....

Thank you Great Bend and KBI Law Inforcement for doing an outstanding job on this case. It wasn't enough for this man to rape and kill her but to set her on fire is the unspeakable. Killers need to know there is no such thing as a perfect murder. I hope the family will have some reasurance for the justice he will receive. I have grandchildren that went to school with Alicia and to think of something like this could happen to them would be the end of me. I have lived through a murder myself and it is no picnec. Prayers to the family and for them to find solitude in Jesus. He is the one that will heal. Blessings

I AGREE...THIS GUY NEEDS TO BE DISPOSED OF. I HAVE A 15YR OLD DAUGHTER WHO IS IN THE SAME CLASS AS ALICIA AND IF ANYTHING LIKE THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO HER THAT MAN BETTER PRAY TO HIS LORD ABOVE BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING THAT WOULD SAVE HIM FROM ME. I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY AT THE WAY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT HAVE HANDLED THIS. THEY DIDNT STOP TIL THEY COULD PROVE THAT HE DONE IT. WE ALL KNEW HE DID IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF PROVING IT.

Ok Kansas.....if convicted...this guy needs the death penalty. And I don't mean waiting around on death row for years and years....do it quick, to the point and painfully....like he took Alicia's life. Either that or hand him over to her parents and friends.
