WICHITA, Kansas – The city is moving forward on a plan to tackle the zebra mussel problem at Cheney Reservoir.

The invasive species is clogging up the pipe and intake valves for Wichita’s water supply.

City leaders approved a $2 million plan that would use copper ion technology to halt the spread of the mussels.

The system should be up and working in the next eight months.
