WICHITA, Kansas – There appears to be a compromise in a controversial memorial planned in Wichita for Vietnamese soldiers.

Some U.S. veterans groups have made it very clear -- they do not want a memorial to Vietnamese soldiers in Veterans Memorial Park. That park is owned by the city and both sides sat down with the city manager Wednesday to hammer out a compromise.

Wednesday, both sides came to an agreement in part. They will build a big dirt wall to separate the two memorials – a wall that will be between six and eight fee tall.

“I think it was a very amicable meeting,” said U.S. Veteran Phillip Blake. “Neither side reached all we want. Most of us would have preferred the monument be located somewhere else.”

If U.S. veterans groups vote ‘no’ to the compromise on Monday, then the compromise will be sent to the city council for a final vote since the city has the say because it owns the land.
