WICHITA, Kansas - This week Raj Goyle, a Democratic candidate for the 4th Congressional District seat, unveiled his first TV ad in the race. The move comes after a heated back and forth on the Republican side and is now shedding some light on the Democratic race.
The Republicans have been going at it on the airwaves for weeks. With that, Democratic candidate Raj Goyle is hitting them too, letting voters know the Republican Primary won't necessarily decide the race.
"I think a lot of people are angry at Washington right now, and so am I," Goyle said.
Goyle, a Wichita native, is the best funded candidate on either side of the race - a status he's attributed to knocking on doors and listening to voters.
"We've gotten five dollar checks and ten dollar checks, people at the door step and people of all parties," he said.
He says he plans to win this Congressional seat - the first open seat in Kansas in 50 years -- and he will focus on the needs of Kansans, including returning jobs to the area.
"The first thing I'm going to do is do everything I can to repeal the tax breaks and loopholes that (rewards) companies to ship our American jobs overseas," he said. "It is wrong."
Goyle, however, is not the only candidate seeking the Democratic nomination. Retired Kansas Supreme Court employee Robert Tillman says he was inspired by President Obama's election and decided to take an interest in politics.
"I don't have an agenda for myself," Tillman said. "I'm in it for the people."
Tillman says he plans to support those who are unemployed by insuring unemployment is funded and working to create jobs.
"I'm out here because I believe that I have the ability and the background to help out the little people," he said.
Both Goyle and Tillman guarantee a strong fight from Democrats to regain the Congressional seat.
Voters will decide in the Primary on August 3.
