WICHITA, Kansas (AP) - A federal grand jury in Wichita has indicted a registered nurse on charges of diluting morphine for patients at a Halstead nursing home where she formerly worked.

Deborah J. Riggs was charged Wednesday with 10 counts of tampering with a consumer product and adulteration of drugs.

Prosecutors allege the 55-year-old nurse diluted the morphine solutions of five patients at the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation facility where she worked from March 2008 until this past March.

Riggs was convicted in 1998 of fraudulently obtaining drugs. The Kansas Board of Nursing suspended her license in 2008 for drug abuse and narcotics theft from Wesley Medical Center, then allow her to continue practicing with conditions.

Riggs could not be located for comment, and court records did not list an attorney for her.

Yes they drug test at hiring and randomly. I agree she should never be allowed to practice again. I am surprised she got the second chance that she wasted. I believe most nurses would feel the same as I.

How does a 55 year old junkie nurse even get a job with such responsibility. Do they drug test folks in the medical business? McDonald's drug test their employees. What an inconsiderate loser. Old folks dying from pain and she is stealing their pain relief. Something needs to be done so this woman's medical career is over. She has done this in the past, she will do it again. She should be forced to attend rehab and pay for the cost of rehab or spend time in jail. The junkie nurse should pay for the pain and suffering she has caused.

I'm a nurse and I honestly don't see how you could live with yourself. Those people who recieve the the diluted drug are suffering. No excuse for this. None.
