GARDEN CITY, Kan. (AP) - Finney County Commissioner Larry Jones is tired of finding plastic bags in shelter belts and fences on his property east of Holcomb.

In response, he's proposed that the county, Holcomb and Garden City consider setting a date in the future to ban the use of disposable plastic bags by area retailers.

Jones says he doesn't know if a ban would work, and he made the suggestion as a starting place to discuss what to do about the bags.

Last year, Garden City began an education campaign about several environmental issues, including reducing the number of plastic bags in the city. Now, the city's Environmental Issues Board has been asked to revisit the issue and propose more specific steps.
