WICHITA, Kansas – After years of waiting, Wichita drivers will be able to drive through the intersection at Kellogg and Rock Rd this week.
The project won’t be complete until spring 2010, but drivers will be able to use two of the three lanes of the freeway in each way beginning this week.
After morning rush hour traffic Wednesday, eastbound traffic will be routed onto the freeway; the same will happen for westbound traffic on Friday.
Currently, Rock Road traffic is unable to turn onto Kellogg, but that will change the week of November 9th. That's when turn lanes will open at rock. The turn lanes at Armour, an entrance to Towne East Mall, will open the week of November 16th.
The $155 million project began in February 2007 and was funded by the City of Wichita through its portion of a one-percent, countywide sales tax. The stretch of Kellogg is expected to yield a $450 million impact to the local economy when it is complete.
