WICHITA, Kansas -- The Machinists Union negotiating committee has been informed that Hawker Beechcraft has received a large offer from the state of Louisiana.

Union leaders were expecting a final contract early next week with a vote set for next Saturday, but that vote has now been canceled by the union.  Flyers were passed out at the machinist monthly meeting Saturday.

The flyers say the negotiating committee was informed Friday that Hawker Beechcraft's  entire operation would be moved to Baton Rouge.

The union says Gov. Mark Parkinson will meet with Hawker-Beechcraft officials and the International Association of Machinists Tuesday to see how the state may be able to intervene. The flyer also says the IAM president belives there is a good chance of keeping some Hawker operations in Wichita.

"It's in the hands of the governor and the state of Kansas, and the IAM will do everything it can to help make it reality," read the flier. "The IAM believes it is imperative for the governor to leave absolutely no stone unturned to save every job possible at Hawker Beechcraft."

The governor's office released a statement Saturday afternoon saying, "We are doing everything in our power to make sure Hawker-Beechcraft jobs remain in Kansas."

Union officials say if Kansas can make an offer to Hawker, the members will have to ratify a re-negotiated contract to keep some of those jobs here.

hey badkat! I do work at Hawker and for your information I do put in a days work as well as everyone else at Hawker! As with any job there will always be slackers including at McDonalds. So you get off your high horse and quit blaming the union and the workers. yes there are good and bad things about unions but at Hawker i have met some of the hardest working people in my life. I for one would gladly look at an offer from the company to see if there was anything we could do to save our jobs, but as you can tell from the news we were never given the chance as the company stopped all negotiations with the union.

Unions do suck. Maybe if the people that work for Hawker would have done an honest days work, instead of worrying about how much money they could make...they would still have a job! Now all those people making big bucks will be making big mac's.

I see two problems with this story. It involves unions and government when it should involve neither. Take the union out of the equation and they would never have been looking elsewhere in the first place. Wichita has a great workforce for aircraft jobs, best in the country in my opinion, problem is the union, they are taking away freedom and liberty.

That's what unions do for you. They negotiate you out of a job with all the BS. You should learn how to represent each other without having to pay dues, which drive up the cost of doing business. Other companies give you the benefits that you want for free. Think about it you pay a union guy to get you health benefits then you pay for those health benefits out of your check. Why not cut out the middle man and pocket more money? UNIONS SUCK!!!!!!

Maybe Beechcraft should do a little research first on the workers in Lousiana and Mississippi. They love to take off work EVERYTIME it looks like a good fishing day. Boeing learned the hard way that workers there have a MUCH DIFFERENT WORK ETHIC/mentality there. After losing MILLIONS Boeing brought the work back to Wichita.

This come as no surprise to me. The big bosses at the top are feeling the crunch in there pockets that the normal people have been dealing with for the past 4 years or so, and they cant cope with it. I worked for HBC for a year, in that time I spent more time shadowing my tool box for the 6 sigma tool bags with a clipboard than working on the jet, why? The 6simga 10th degree rainbow belt said it would increase production not to mention him trying to figure out how to cut hours on my job "even-though he had never been near or worked on a aircraft before". Now lets talk quality. More than half the stuff we received form the Mexico vendor was wrong. We would pull it form the box and have to send it for 50 or sometimes 100 hrs of rework depending on what was found wrong. After a year of this game it got old and I found a new job.I am ex military and they are not as backwards as some of the things at HBC! If they would trim the fat and use what the workers doing the work tell them, instead of using a few million to make charts and graphs that do nothing but impede the workforce. HBC would not be in this tight spot!

Louisiana will have a difficult time ensuring that Katrina money to place jobs in Louisiana can be spent to remove jobs from another state. Sounds like more bull_#%* from a union to try and swing a vote.

LOL, LOL!!!! Been saying it for years and eventually, it will come true. All our super awesome union dudes here that think they can fight tooth and nail for ridiculous wages will soon find themselves in the unemployment line.... You guys better WAKE UP! Rivet jockeys are a dime a dozen, and yes, a cave man can do it. Yes, I am in aerospace and very familiar with the task at hand...
