OSAGE COUNTY, Kansas -- A Missouri man appeared in court Monday and was charged in the deaths of three people over the weekend in Osage County.

James Kahler, 46, was arrested early Sunday morning after a 12-hour manhunt. Officers say he went to his ex-wife’s home in Osage County on Saturday and shot and killed her along with their two teenage daughters. They believe Kahler also shot his ex-wife’s grandmother. She is still in critical condition.

Neighbors in the area are shaken by the tragedy.

“Just very scary, very upsetting, very sorry for the family -- for them to have to pick up and go on from here,’ said neighbor Leean Smiley. “Something you would never ever expect to happen in a small community like this.”

Smiley says a 10-year-old boy ran from the home where the shooting happened to a house across the street.

Kahler is being held on a $10 million bond and a preliminary hearing is set for December 10th.
