LYONS, Kansas – A Lyons man has been formally charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 31-year-old mother of three.
Armando Mosqueda, 35, was charged Monday with the premeditated murder of Jeannie Jacobsen over the weekend. He was arrested while shopping at a Walmart in Baytown, Texas outside of Houston.
Jacobsen was found by her estranged husband and seven-year-old son at around 9 a.m. Sunday morning. She was last seen alive at a Halloween party the night before.
Friends of Jacobsen tell KSN she's been having problems with Mosqueda for months that included violent attacks but finally decided to get an order of protection just days ago after she started fearing for her life.
"We just knew where he was going to go. We know him," explained Lyons Police Chief Chris Detmer. "He's talked about going there a lot of times, he's got family there. That was fairly elementary - more than an educated guess."
"He was going to have her job and her life," said Jessica Whittier, a friend of Jacobsen. "Well, he tried getting her job and that didn't work. Apparently he accomplished the life part."
Police say they knew Mosqueda could occasionally get violent but never expected he was capable of murder. Chief Detmer lamented his department would've done more to protect Jacobsen if they suspected the violence to escalate.
Mosqueda is currently being held in Texas. Extradition efforts are expected to begin this week.
