WINFIELD, Kansas – Officials have released the name of a man killed in a house fire in Winfield over the weekend.
David C. Murphy, 54, was found inside his home by firefighters shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday after a passerby noticed smoke pouring from his home. Medics were unable to revive him.
Investigators say a working smoke detector would have likely saved Murphy’s life. It is believed he died from smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
