MARION COUNTY, Kansas – Marion County is dealing with a mystery along the tracks as a passenger from an Amtrak train was found dead along the route.

The man was found dead Tuesday morning in Marion County. How he got there is still a mystery.

The man’s body was found in Florence along Amtrak’s Southwest Chief Route, which runs from Chicago to Los Angeles through Kansas. The body was spotted by an engineer for Burlington Northern, who was driving a freight train along the route.

A spokesperson for Amtrak says the man somehow left the train near 1 a.m. At this point it is still unknown how or why the man exited the train or how he died.

The train can reach speeds up to 90 miles per hour.

Amtrak is conducting its own investigation as is Burlington Northern.

The Marion County coroner is investigating the man’s death.
