WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita will soon have a tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The TSA at Mid-Continent Airport requested and received an I-Beam from the World Trade Center with the idea of turning it into an inspiring display inside the terminal building.
B&B Metal Arts in Hoisington came up with the design and volunteered to make the sculpture for free. It should be ready to unveil in September.
"You know, I haven't forgotten, I know the country hasn't forgotten,” said Bruce Bitter, sculptor. “You know, when we go through, have our 10th anniversary, no one's...going to forget. We're going to keep going on just as the eagle flies onward."
The I-Beam will be cut into pieces and the artists will make similar sculptures for the other TSA airports in Kansas, including Great Bend, Manhattan, Dodge City, Garden City and Liberal.
