WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita played host Wednesday to the Tea Party Express tour that started in California last week and is making its way East. Those attending say they are tired of government spending and are especially concerned about the prospect of nationalized health care.

"We're very glad they decided to stop in
Kansas,” said one participant. “It is an important state.”

Wichitans showed up in force for the Tea Party Express for its cross-country tour. Many people say their protests are not about Democrats or Republicans. Those who spoke to KSN are angry with both parties for what they call wasteful spending. But there was a lot of anti-Obama sentiment at the rally – mostly because of health care reform.

"I had a doctor on Friday say, ‘What makes health care a right to everybody?’” said Lynda Tyler, Tea Party Express Oragnizer. “’If it's going to be a right,’ the doctor said, ‘why don't we open up the grocery stores, shouldn't we have a right to food?’”

There were also a handful of protestors opposed to the tea party movement. They believe the tea party participants don’t represent the majority of Americans, especially when it comes to health care.

"There's been a lot of misinformation that has gone out this year about what health care reform is," said Jason Dilts, Democratic Paty consultant. "What it would mean for you as an individual. What it would mean for the economy. And these events are just part of promulgating that misinformation."

Wichita is one of 38 cities playing host to the Tea Party Express tour.
