WICHITA, Kansas -- Sedgwick County investigators have determined that six old headstones found in a roadside ditch Monday came from Highland Cemetery, 1000 N. Hillside.

The headstones were in a ditch in southwest Sedgwick County, near the intersection of 87th Street South and Hoover Road.

The headstones are very old, dating from the late 1800s to the early 1900s.

They have these names and dates:  Mary Lawson, 1907, Timothy Steele, 1877, Joseph Mohan, 1877, Timothy O'Conner, 1867, Birtie Summers, 1881, and Henry Steele, 1877.

After the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office released photos of the headstones, they got a lot of phone calls, e-mails and tips from online genealogists who helped locate where the headstones came from.

Investigators notified Highland Cemetery of the find.

Employees there will file a police report about the loss of the headstones.
