WICHITA, Kansas -- Sheriff's investigators say they now know the origins of a human skull found in Cheney in late January.

Investigators say a former resident had buried the skull before moving off of the property in 2010. The individual said the skull had been in the family's possession ever since it was left on their parents' doorstep in Circleville, Kansas on Halloween night of 1949.

The family attempted to have the skull identified by experts in the 1970's and were told the skull was of Asian descent, most likely a World War II souvenir.

Investigators had few leads when the skull was first found on Jan. 29. Theories ranged from homicide to remains from an old graveyard.

The Sheriff's Office has transferred the case to authorities in Jackson County, where Circleville is located.

Makes a change for a skull found near Cheney not to belong to Harry Whittington.

Funny how this article says the skull is of 'Asian' decent, but Mark Davidson this morning said 'African-American' decent. So which one is it??
