Wichita, Kansas - Max the pit bull is big, protective, and loud. About a month ago he broke free of his chain and was pepper sprayed by the mail carrier.
Today, the U-S Postal Service says it will no longer deliver mail to the house where Max lives.
The post office has also cut mail delivery to the entire block.
Terri, the homeowner, says Max did break his chain and run to the end of their property. But, Terri says the dog did not leave the property and was still pepper sprayed by the mail carrier.
Jim is Max's owner, and got a letter from the post office that says, in part, "Starting today the entire 19-hundred block (of South Market) is being held for pickup until the dog is no longer at your address."
Jim and Terri admit the mail carrier is scared of Max after that pepper spray incident, but both say that mail carrier is still safe to deliver mail to the neighborhood.
In fact, Terri says she's moved her mailbox to the curb so the mail carrier could avoid the dog. When that was not enough assurance for the mail carrier, Terri moved her mailing address across the street to her mother's house.
Still, that letter from the post office says there will be no mail delivered to the entire block, until the dog is gone.
Some neighbors have questions.
Nick Cash, who lives next door says, "Well, I think it is ridiculous. It's rather stupid... I know Max, and he's never bit me. He's just loud and protective.
Still, the post office says no mail for the entire block until the dog moves.
