WICHITA, KansasWichita police say a 17-year-old boy was shot Tuesday and didn’t even know it.

The teen reported that shortly after 1 a.m. his wallet was stolen after being struck with an unknown object in the area near 119th and 21st streets on the city's west side. Paramedics were called and the father of the teen refused medical treatment. A short time later police stopped a suspect vehicle with five teenagers inside. They searched the area around the car and found a pistol lying in the road as well as the boy’s wallet.

Later on the victim was taken by private vehicle to a west Wichita emergency room where medical personnel discovered he had been shot in the head. He was then taken to Wesley Medical Center for observation.

The teens were all taken to the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center where they were booked for curfew violations with other charges possibly pending.
