GARDNER, Kansas -- The 51-year-old suspect was arrested near Kansas City Sunday afternoon. Witnesses say police surrounded the light blue Taurus with guns drawn. Newton resident David Hall was driving by as the arrest was taking place.
"We started seeing more police officer and all of a sudden all the brake lights came on ahead of us and then we noticed that there were three police officers who had the car stopped," said Hall. "They all had their guns drawn and we rolled up on them very slowly."
Gardner is just south of Kansas City. Police were looking for a suspect in Merriam, also in the Kansas City area. Officers had sent out a description matching the driver of the car Sunday morning.
"About that time he stuck one hand out and then he got completely out just as we rolled by. He looked like he was about a 50-year-old white male. Looked like he had grey hair. He had a white ball cap and a blue denim shirt."
We have been gathering information about the suspect but will not release any information until his name has been released by police.
