Wichita, Kansas -- The Supreme Court is taking up Chicago's gun ban, in a move that could affect gun laws, nationwide.
Chicago is widely known as the most dangerous city in America for young people. Last school year, there were 36 deaths in the city alone. Supporters say the ban has prevented countless more deaths.
But across the country, and here in Wichita gun rights supporters say the ban only hurts lawful citizens.
"The folks that are using them in a bad way, they're going to continue to have them," said Mike Relihan of Bullseye. "So people that want to buy them in a law abiding way and use them as they should be used, than there's nothing the matter with that."
Tuesday, The Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether the Second Amendment supercedes a city's right to ban guns.
Legal analyst Dan Monnat says it could be a big victory for gun rights supporters.
"If the United States Supreme court overturns the right of the city of Chicago to enact legislation on handguns," said Monnat, "then what it means is that the Second Amendment applies as a check on legislation by state and municipal governments."
Meaning, cities would no longer be allowed to enact gun bans inconsistent with the Second Amendment.
But even if the court upholds Chicago's ban, Monnat says it would not have a dramatic impact on Kansas or our conceal and carry gun law, which does comply to our state constitution.
"Kansas with its recent 2006 enactment of the carry and conceal law, was probably not looking for any new gun control legislation anyway," said Monnat.
