Wichita, Kansas - A Wichita church is responding this week after a Florida pastor vowed to burn hundreds of copies of the Quran on the Nine anniversary of September 11th.

"We have no intention of canceling," says Florida Pastor Terry Jones.

Jones still plans on hosting the burning of the Quran this weekend, despite calls from around the country for him to change his mind.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and General Patraeus have called for Jones to step down from the idea. Many in Wichita are joining in that call.

"We will have a day of prayer to make a statement," says Reverend Gary Blaine, of the Wichita University Congregational Church. "This is an absolute must. We have to take a stand and let people know."

Blaine, along with other Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders will be at the University Congregational Church Saturday at 7 p.m. in north Wichita.

"Prayers for peace is the theme," says Blaine.

Those in the Islamic community are thrilled to be taking part.

"Well, the Quran is a book of peace," says Hussam Madi, of the Islamic Society of Wichita. "It came from a revelation from God. "We all share common links. The Quran shares many fundamental principles with Christianity."

While Wichita organizers point to a lesson of tolerance this weekend in Kansas, they invite everyone interested in religious freedom and peace to go to the prayer session at University Congregational Church.

I bought a piece of sjhit muslim bible and I plan to burn it. Yea, that's wrong to burn any book. The USA was formed on Christian beliefs and our constitution guarantees freedom of religion. In God We Trust does not give any religion the right to take religious precedence in the USA. We owe the Muslim community nothing, It"s time the citizens of the US stop bowinwing to the muslum society.

You missed the point. If they think they should be allowed to do it then they shouldn't whine like little children when someone else does it to them. If they do then they are hypocrites.

Rashe, it's not about freedom or fear of retaliation. It's about respect and being the bigger man (or country). You are correct about religions being flawed. The bible was after all written by man. Inspired by God, but written by man. But just because other people go around burning things, it doesn't mean should. If you don't want them to burn your flag, then why would you burn theirs? If your answer is "they did it first," then you are no better than a little kid that needs to be put in time out. If you want your culture and belifes to be respected, then you had better respect everyone else's too. They are people with families just like us. They have rights just like us.

You know, when a Muslim burns a copy of the Christian Bible or burns an American flag, we don't go on a crusade and kill people. If they can burn our flag and our Bibles and chant "Death to America" we can certainly give them what they give us. Muslims around the world need to grow up and understand their holy book is flawed, just like all "holy" books are. The world isn't flat, our bones are not formed first with the flesh "clothed" over them afterward, and their holiest prophet, whom they claim is infallible, contradicts himself by stating the world was made in 6 days, then later claiming 8 days and in other, non-Qu'ran writings, it's 9 days. They need to get with the times and stop being so superstitious and back-handed. I know not all Muslims are fanatical, like the ones I've described, but enough is enough! We will not live our lives walking on eggshells for those murderous, fanatical extremists! In this country we have something called "Freedom of Speech". Sometimes we don't like it (Westboro Baptist [cult] "Church") but we take it on the chin and get on with our lives. They need to learn how to do that as well.
