WICHITA, Kansas -- For months, school leaders have been hearing options for schools across the district.

Now USD 259 Superintendent John Allison has laid out his plans.

"Our intent was to be as a district very deliberate in the process that we went through as well as providing opportunity for community input,” said Allison.

Elementary schools would see the most change with Bryant, Emerson, and Lincoln closing its doors.

Mueller would also close, but its magnet program would shift to Isely.

Parents are still fighting to keep schools open.

“None of us want to think about that yet we are not done fighting,” said Charity Chapman, an Emerson parent.

The plan would give Emerson parents first priority at Lewis.

Chapman said she is not impressed.

"We chose Emerson for a reason,” Chapman said.  “We applied for Emerson and looked at all the other magnets.  Obviously we wanted Emerson."

On the middle school front a new southeast quadrant K-8 boundary would be created for a new school.

Some students at Stucky, Hamilton, Mead, Coleman, and Robinson could see boundary changes.

Students at four high schools including Heights, West, east, and southeast would also see the lines change.

The Northeast Magnet program would move to the new high school in Bel Aire.

Board member Sheril Logan raised some concern and said she would like to see just how many students would be affected in high schools.

Superintendent Allison will take board members comments from Monday night to work on a better proposal.

He will likely release that version next week.  Board members will vote on a final plan February 27.
