MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kansas - Authorities in Independence say two men have died after being pulled from the Verdigris River.
The incident happened Wednesday night.
According to Montgomery County Sheriff Robert Dierks, two teens were swimming near a low water dam north of Coffeyville when Bo Miesner of Independence was pulled underneath the dam by the flow of water.
Steven Whittley, of Independence, dove into the water to try to save Miesner but was also pulled under.
Rescue crews arrived in time to pull Miesner from the water.
He was taken to a Wichita hospital where he died.
Authorities found the body of Whittley around 10:42 Friday morning.
