Woman accused of killing Wichita mother in court for motions hearing

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The woman accused of killing a Wichita mother and kidnapping her newborn was in court Thursday morning.

Right now, the trial for Yesenia Sesmas is scheduled to start on May 29 in Wichita.

She is charged with first-degree murder in the deadly shooting of Laura Abarca in late 2016.

The motion hearing allowed for the prosecution and defense to hash out things before they go to trial.

It included motions for the use of gruesome photos during trial, to smaller issues regarding potential jurors.

The hearing will continue tomorrow morning.
