Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, June 26, 2013.
Active weather becomes more focused over the East on Wednesday as low pressure in the Central Plains lifts northeastward into the Upper Great Lakes and it¼’s associated frontal boundaries become draped from the Northeast through the Central Plains. Sufficient moisture streaming from the Gulf of Mexico will pool along and near the boundary, leading to showers and thunderstorms from the Midwest into New England areas. More moderate to locally heavy precipitation is expected ahead of the low in parts of the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development from the Mid- and Upper Mississippi Valleys through the Northeast, yielding risks of damaging wind gusts and hail during the afternoon and evening.
Meanwhile, moisture rich air from the south will stream into the East, maintaining hot and humid conditions. Expect areas of showers and thunderstorms in parts the Southeast and Central and Eastern Gulf Coasts through the day.
Out West, rain showers in northern California and the Pacific Northwest will wane through Wednesday evening as ridging develops over the region. A strong warming trend is anticipated with this transition for the Desert Southwest during the next few days. Excessive heating will likely lead to some of the warmest temperatures of the year thus far for this region.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a morning low of 33 degrees at Bryce Canyon, Utah to a high of 102 degrees at Wink, Texas
