Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, July 11, 2013. A front arching through the eastern third of the country and into the Plains will bring the most active weather to the country on Thursday. This front will move slowly southeastward toward the eastern seaboard as the day progresses, allowing a high pressure system to fill in from the north. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will be likely from the Northeast through the Southeast, but as the front passes a location, rain will diminish rather rapidly. The heaviest rain may be concentrated in the Mid Atlantic and Carolinas in the afternoon and evening, while moderate to heavy rain will fall along the Northeast coast.
Meanwhile, the tail end of the front will stretch into the Plains, bringing areas of strong thunderstorms, heavy rain, and gusty wind. These thunderstorms are not expected to become severe in nature, but damage from strong wind and large hail will be possible in Kansas and Oklahoma.
Dry weather is anticipated from the Northern Plains through the Upper Midwest, while the Ohio Valley will gradually dry out throughout the day.
In the West, monsoon moisture will continue to produce scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms, while dry and warm conditions will continue in California.
The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Plains will rise into the 90s and some 100s, while the Southwest will see temperatures into the 100s again.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday have ranged from a morning low of 36 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a high of 104 degrees at Henderson, Nev.
