LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas and federal energy policymakers will gather this week to discuss ways to remove barriers to the construction of electric transmission lines.

The meeting Tuesday in Lawrence will focus on issues related to the construction of proposed transmission lines from Kansas to Oklahoma. One is a proposal to build a line from Spearville to Wichita. The Southwest Power Pool considers it a priority.

The projects are central to state efforts to develop wind and other renewable energy sources and export that power to other markets.

A commissioner with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will give his perspective on developing transmission lines.

Among other state utility experts in attendance, Gov. Mark Parkinson is scheduled to speak at the close of the conference.
