WICHITA, Kansas -- KSN, in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters is working to team kids with mentors. Today we introduce you to Bri.
Nine-year-old Bri is a little bit shy but she’s a bright and genuinely engaging young lady. Bri loves art and she’s crazy about animals.
"I have two cats, one dog, two bunnies and one goldfish," said Bri. "Actually, I want to get two goldfish."
She also enjoys swimming, ice skating and would love to learn a new sport.
"I want to go water skiing," said Bri.
Although she is only nine, they have been tough years. Suspected of being abused, she was removed from her home at only four months old -- she never knew her father. When she was only four years old, her mom overdosed on drugs.
"Of course that was pretty tough on her," said Valecia Vogts-Scribner, case worker. "The mother was in a coma for several days before she passed away so Bri saw that whole process."
Bri lives with her grandma. They have a wonderful relationship, but because her grandmother has to work they can’t spend as much time together as they would like.
So what kind of Big Sister is Bri looking for?
"I’m looking for one that is fun -- and really nice."
A simple request -- someone nice with a little time on her hands and a little room in her heart. What that Big Sister gets back in return can’t be put into words.
