KU heading to Final Four

DETROIT, Michigan, March 30, 2008- For the first time in 5 years KU is going to the Final Four. Kansas wore down Stephen Curry and plucky Davidson with its size and strength and held on for a 59-57 victory to win the Midwest Regional. That puts all four Number-1 seeds into the Final Four for the first time.

Davidson came up one miracle short. After Kansas' Sherron Collins missed with 19 seconds left, the 10th-seeded Wildcats got one last chance. Curry was double-teamed, could not get off a shot and forced to pass to Jason Richards. His 25-footer from the top of the key thudded off the backboard. Curry led all scorers with 25 points.

Richards dropped to his back at midcourt while the Jayhawks celebrated with a measure of relief.

Sausa Kaun and Mario Chalmers led Kansas with 13 apiece. Brandon Rush scored eight of his 12 points in the second half. The win earns Kansas coach Bill Self his first trip to the Final Four.

Kansas moved on to play overall Number-1 seed North Carolina on Saturday. UCLA and Memphis will round out the party at the Alamodome.
