Schaus named new University of Ohio AD

By Jessica Oakley

WICHITA, Kansas, April 7, 2008 – Wichita State Athletic Director Jim Schaus was introduced Monday as the new AD at the University of Ohio.

When Jim Schaus arrived at Wichita State nine years ago, WSU athletics were at a low point. Winning was not happening, facilities had grown old and the department itself was lethargic.

Schaus changed that creating an infrastructure that has led to four consecutive Missouri Valley all sports crowns. His crowing achievement perhaps was the $25 million renovation of Koch Arena.

Under Schaus, Wichita State regained lost prominence. He’ll now try to do something similar at the University of Ohio.

Schaus takes over a bobcat program that has 16 sports including football. Their coach is former Nebraska coach Frank Solich. They participate in the Mid-American Conference.

Ohio has an enrollment of more than 16,000 students.

The school is located about 75 miles southeast of Columbus. It’s also about 150 miles from Morgantown, West Virginia where his parents live.

Schaus said he wanted to be close to his father who is in poor health.
