WSU alumni Paul Miller joins NY Knicks summer team

By Jessica Oakley

WICHITA, Kansas, July 10, 2008 -- In the two and a half years since his final game at Koch Arena, Paul Miller's basketball career has taken him halfway around the world.

This spring he finished year two in Poland, where he played well enough to earn an invitation to join the New York Knicks summer team in Las Vegas.

"It's a good opportunity for me to get in front of the Knicks as well as other N-B-A teams just to let them know that I'm still working on my game and trying to get better,” said Miller.  “And if they see something they like, then we can try and talk about going to training camp again."

Miller went to Knicks camp two years ago after a strong showing in the summer league and although he didn't make the team, he's used the time since to make himself a more attractive N-B-A talent.

“In Europe you have to shoot the ball effectively from outside, So I've tried to extend my range past 15-feet...beyond the three-point line, said Miller.  “And I've been able to work on that shot while I've been overseas."

He's continued his work here in Wichita, both on and off the floor.

"The higher you can jump and the faster you can run...it always adds benefits to your game."

It would all be worth it for a spot in the N-B-A, but if not...

"I'll gladly head back overseas and play another season there. It's been a wonderful career so far and I've really enjoyed my time in Europe and I just love playing basketball."

Wichita State's career leader in games played boards a plane for Vegas on Friday.

The Knicks play their first Summer League Game Monday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
