Lubbock, TX (Sports Network) - Baron Batch ran for 123 yards and four
touchdowns, as the Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated the Kansas Jayhawks, 42-21,
in Big 12 play at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Seth Doege and Taylor Potts both saw time at quarterback for TTU (6-3, 3-2 Big
12) and they combined for 253 yards and a touchdown on 25-of-47 pass attempts.
Detron Lewis was the main target, as he finished with five catches for 87
yards and a score.
Todd Reesing threw for 181 yards and a score for Kansas (5-3, 1-3), but he was
sacked six times and lost a pair of fumbles. Dezmon Briscoe pulled in nine
passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, as the Jayhawks dropped their third game
in a row.
The Jayhawks grabbed a lead midway through the opening quarter, when Maxwell
Onyegbule picked up a fumble and returned it three yards to the end zone.
The Raiders tied things up less than a minute into the second quarter, as
Doege threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Lewis. Batch pushed TTU ahead, 14-7,
with a two-yard touchdown run later in the period.
With 47 seconds left, Kansas knotted the score with a two-yard touchdown run
by Toben Opurum.
Both teams were quiet for most of the third quarter before Briscoe pulled in a
six-yard touchdown pass from Reesing with five seconds remaining.
The Raiders seized control of the game in the final quarter, scoring 28-
unanswered points. Batch scored on runs of one and 17 yards, respectively,
before LaRon Moore returned a fumble 31 yards for a touchdown. Batch capped
his terrific performance with an 11-yard touchdown run late in the frame.
TTU's defense came up big in this one, forcing four turnovers and holding
Kansas to just 258 total yards.
