Nico Hernandez prepares for May 19th bout

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - We are just a week away from the first ever, world title boxing fight to be held in Kansas.

Current IBA American Flyweight Champ and 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist Nico Hernandez will be back in the ring to tak on Szilveszter "The Silent Assassin" Kanalas.

Hernandez (4-0, 3 KO's) won his last fight back in February against Victor Torres, after a TKO in the fifth round at Hartman Arena.

He says he was pleased with that performance, but knew there was more work to be done for his upcoming bout.

"I felt good but there are always things you can improve, just got back to the gym and work harder," said Hernandez.  "Knowing that I got my city behind my back and knowing that I can go out there and bring the city out also, bring some attention to the city, it's a good deal," he added.

The fight is scheduled for Saturday, May 19th at the Kansas Star Casino, beginning at 8 p.m.
