Trips to Orlando, Lubbock Highlight WSU Men’s Basketball Schedule

By Jessica Oakley

WICHITA, Kansas, August 29, 2008 -- Sixteen home games, a trip to the highly challenging Old Spice Classic in Orlando and a game at Texas Tech mark Wichita State’s men’s basketball schedule.

Coach Gregg Marshall calls the schedule “ambitious,” especially with such an inexperienced team as the Shockers.

After a home exhibition against Emporia State, WSU opens with a Sunday afternoon game against Florida A&M at Koch Arena on November 16.  Then after home games against UMKC and Centenary, the Shockers go to Orlando, where they will face NCAA teams Georgetown (on November 27) and either Tennessee or Sienna (on November 28).  On November 30, they will close out play at the Old Spice Classic against either Maryland, Michigan State, Oklahoma State or Gonzaga.

December starts with games in Texas – in Lubbock against Texas Tech on December 3 and in Fort Worth against TCU on December 8.  WSU is back home to close out their pre-Christmas schedule with home games against Gardner-Webb, Northern Arizona and North Dakota.

The Shockers will start conference play before the new year, with a December 28 game at Creighton.

The conference slate gets a break on February 20 or 21, when WSU will host a Bracketbusters game.
