WSU Volleyball Rises in Polls; Stockman, Broussard Honored by MVC

WICHITA, Kansas, September 23, 2008 -- After a win in their conference opener, Wichita State is ranked 14th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.

Penn State continues to be ranked first. Nebraska and Texas are second and third, respectively, while Kansas State is 17th.

WSU players Emily Stockman and Kelly Broussard have been honored by the Missouri Valley Conference for their play last week. Stockman was named Player-of-the-Week, while Broussard is Defensive Player-of-the-Week.

Both players led the Shockers to a 3-1 victory over Missouri State on Sept. 19 to open Valley play. Stockman registered a match-high 18 kills along with eight digs and four blocks, while hitting .300 from the left side. Stockman averaged 4.50 kills per set, 2.00 digs per set, 1.00 block per set and 5.40 points per set in the contest.

Broussard averaged 6.50 digs per set in the contest and also had a perfect service reception percentage in 15 attempts. Her 26 digs were also a match-high and just one dig shy of her season-best total.
