THEATER INDUSTRY HELPS STUDENTS IN NEED

May 7th, 2007

When temperatures fell to -20 degrees in February, a pipe in Trinity Catholic Academy School burst on the third floor. By the time the water was shut off, everything in the school was distorted. Books, walls, ceiling, rugs, desks, computers, and associated electronics were ruined.

The following week, Mr. James Missall, the schools volunteer Lighting Director asked Ms. Oakes (school Principle) if their was anything he could do, like wiring or help with reconstruction. She said; “No, not really, we hired a contractor, but please make sure we have lights for our up coming musical”.

Trinity Catholic Academy was formed five years ago when the former St. Theresa’s grammar school combined with St. Agatha’s and Holy Family. Besides a providing an excellent primary grade curriculum, Trinity has focused on providing students with a strong performing arts background. They believe that the best way to learn about theater is through actual participation, and the students perform a couple community musical yearly.

That week Mr. Missall sent out several dozen emails soliciting help from professional organizations within the theater industry and to educational organizations. He received correspondence from as far way as Australia concerned about the schools dilemma. The following day he received telephone calls from industrial giants such as: Electronic Theater Controls (ETC), Wybron, Sylvania Orsam, and St. Bonaventure’s University. Ms. Oaks also informed him that; “This years musical, will also be the schools grand reopening.”

“Everyone was so generous and concerned about our students well being, we will never be able to start to express our appreciation; Mr. Missall said; from the donation over a dozen Source Four spot lights, dimmers, and a control broad from ETC, to Sylvania donating lamps to light them, to Wybron providing 3 professional Nexera’s and ForeRunner color changers. The crew from St. Bonaventure University who also worked hand in hand with our students safely setting up our stage, and Dunkin Donuts who donated breakfast. How do you thank so many people?”

This years show will be a spectacular performance of lighting, music, and wonderful acting. The students will be performing Kathie Hill’s rendition of AmeriKids, which is a parody based on the history of our nation. Shows will be at 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM, May 18th, and tickets are only $3.00 ($2.00 for students and senior citizens), everyone is welcome to attend.
