The Topeka Zoo’s giraffe Abi is finally ready to give birth after 15 months.
Staff says Abi went into labor early Sunday morning.
After the zoo closed at 5, many people tuned in to watch keep a watch on the zoo’s 24-hour live stream.
Monica Davidson tuned in from Massachusetts. She says she has never even been to Topeka, but enjoys chatting with other viewers anxiously awaiting the arrival.
“I’ve always loved giraffes and I’ve also followed April the giraffe when she had given birth and about a month ago I saw that Topeka was having a giraffe so I tuned in,” said Davidson.
Public radio station KTWU has partnered with the zoo to host four webcams broadcasting 24/7 that watch mothers-to-be Abi and Hope. They announced Sunday morning that Abi is expected to give birth any time.
