Denise Neil Author of “Classic Restaurants of Wichita”

Good Day Kansas

I’ve admired Denise Neil’s work ethic and influence on small businesses in our community since my arrival to Wichita. Today was such a treat to welcome her on the show to hear about her newest adventure, writing a book showcasing the gone-but-not-forgotten beloved restaurants of Wichita.

In my opinion Denise Neil, author of the popular Wichita Eagle column, “Dining With Denise” is truly one of the most influential people in Wichita. She has spent over 20 years researching restaurants and sharing her experiences in the community. She has created a platform that has the power to positively impact small businesses and what I love most about her is that she is real. Speaking with her for just a few moments allows you to see that. She doesn’t sugar coat anything, she is very much down to Earth and just herself, at the end of the day she works hard, shares her experiences, gathers information and shares it with our community.

She has gained trust from the community and gained quite the following as well. Quite frankly people live for her recommendations and often times make dinner plans based off of her feedback. When Denise was approached about writing a book featuring some of the favorite restaurants across the Wichita Metro Area she didn’t flinch, she had half the list formed in her head by the end of the phone call. This is what she knows, what she lives and what people expect her to have the scoop on.

This new project allowed Denise to step outside of her comfort zone of half a page in the paper and share about 100 restaurants that once or still call Wichita home and that people will always remember fondly. This book represents more than restaurants or establishments. As you turn the pages you hear about the families that worked hard to keep their business successful, the chefs that remember your order and how precisely you like your eggs cooked. This book contains a collection of nostalgic photos and truly encapsulates the history of WIchita, a community that loves food, breaking bread with one another, sharing a cup of joe and of course talking about who and what happened last weekend.
