Keepers On Parade B29 Doc’s Hangar sponsored by Spirit Aero Systems
It’s time for another Keepers on Parade and today we are featuring the mini Keeper of the Plains housed inside the b 29 Doc’s Hangar Education Center. I had the chance to hear from Amy Williams, Sr Manager Community Relations and Spirit Graphic Designer and artist behind the design of this keeper, Tim Webb. Amy mentioned Spirit had been working with Together Wichita on this project and was very excited to showcase the iconic symbol of Wichita. The Spirit Aero Systems’ sculpture is housed inside the B29 Doc’s Hangar Education Center. Doc (the aircraft) was being restored by Spirit and that restoration was a great opportunity to select this facility as the home to display the sculpture, representing a part of Spirit’s legacy. Tim Webb joined me to share his perspective on the sculpture, named the Keeper of the Air Capitol. He mentioned he worked on some great projects at Spirit, but this is quite unique. The sketches and artwork being created digitally. The artwork depicts historical representation of the aircraft that had been produced in Wichita, The Steerman and the B 29 and other aircraft’s built at Spirit are represented on the Keeper. Tim mentioned his favorite part is of the keeper is the B 29. The sculpture housed at the B29 Doc Hangar and Education Center and is open to he public, be sure to stop in and check it out!
