Did you know there are over 100 murals located in the Douglas Design District in Downtown Wichita? All with a different story and most sponsored by a local business and painted by a local artist. If that is the epitome of a collaborative community I don’t know what is.
The Douglas Design District refers to themselves as a “3-mile stretch of authenticity, steeped in old-timey tradition and on the upside of the hill. We are full to the brim with electricity and we know our neighbors. The spark lives here…” The group behind the Douglas Design District and the business owners within the district are all passionate about enhancing our community and providing a platform and opportunities for local artists so showcase their talents while bettering our community. Every year they host the Avenue Art Days as a way to raise funds to add more murals to the district.
The Kindness Is Magic Mural was done by Nicole Strain and is by far one of my favorites in the Douglas Design District. Nicole’s zest for life and treating each other with kindness comes across as you stand closer and closer to the mural. The sparkles and the vibes are uplifting. If you can swing by and snap a photo she encourages you to post it with the hashtag #KindessIs Magic
