Today was a day my job feels nothing like work, but more like an enormous blessing. I had the opportunity to visit Prairie Hills Middle School and share an important story. In November 2019 the Prairie Hills Middle School Family lost Teacher and Football Coach, Mr Jory Konrade to a tragic car accident. He spent almost 20 years pouring in to the students at Prairie Hills Middle School and today I had the chance to hear from his colleague and long time friend, Billy Briggs who shared the coaching responsibility with Coach Konrade. Coach Briggs shared his admiration for Coach Konrade’s ability to inspire his students and athletes and misses his friendship. I also heard from some of Mr Konrade’s student athletes who shared fond memories of Coach Konrade always sharing his energy and passion for students and athletes to be the very best version of themselves possible. Students told me how Mr Konrade believe they could do amazing things and that made them want to be better. It was shared with me that Mr Konrade loved teaching and sharing his love of art with his students. He also excelled at coaching. His team’s 89-9 record during the 14 years he coached at PHMS didn’t consist solely of winning games––he won the hearts of the kids on and off the field. The relationship between students, coaches and teachers is indescribably special and the PHMS Family will forever use his name as the school’s football field will now be called the Jory Konrade Football Field. His legacy lives on.
