Westar Energy: Meet Gladys Jones

Good Day Kansas

Our premiere sponsor Westar Energy goes above and beyond their main job of keeping the lights on…they strive positively to impact their community. One way they do that is by their outstanding employees. The Good Day Kansas team had the chance to meet Maintenance and Construction Supervisor, Gladys Jones.

In this male-dominated industry Gladys successfully manages a team of ten men. She admits it was tough at first but after earning their trust the team has come together and works very well together. She doesn’t let being the only woman on the team phase her. Her objective is to power through any distractions and work together as a team, which she sees as rewarding. Initially challenging, she has grown as a professional and enjoys working with her team. Gladys showed us one of the vaults she operates downtown. There are no overhead power lines downtown, so the vault is the connection system. There are transformers in the vault that work as a network system. There should never be an outage the power downtown should be never off due to the protector on the vault. Gladys enjoys working at Westar energy, being a mother and impacting her community.
