About a year ago I found myself at the starting line of the inaugural Chisholm Trail Marathon. I heard a big “Hi Jillian!” and I was shocked that someone actually knew my name. Our show was so new and I just moved to Wichita; I certainly didn’t expect to know anyone at the race!
I turned and was greeted by a smiling face that looked so familiar but I couldn’t quite place who it was. I said “Hi there, I’m Jillian” and the sweetest woman responded “Of course you are! I watch you on Good Day Kansas; I love your show!” My heart melted as I explained to her I thought know one knew our show just yet and she just made my day! She was the most uplifting, encouraging soul! She quickly introduced herself as “Cathy Willis, Carly‘s Mother” and it clicked why she looked so familiar, and why she was so kind.
This was the first encounter I had with Cathy Willis and I am so grateful for this seemingly small gesture. She truly sent a message of pure joy and wanting our GDK family to feel welcome and loved by the community. This is Cathy Willis. This is who she is to her core; someone who is full of life and love and joy and wanting to share it with others.
I was elated when Cathy agreed to come on the show and share her famous Cathy Willis Cookie Recipe with us! These cookies are well known across the state. They have been baby gifts for firefighters at the Newton Firehouse, they have comforted those who have lost loved ones in Newton, Wichita and beyond and the have lit up the KSN news room time and time again. Cathy put it perfectly when she said these cookies are her way of sending a hug. Cathy Willis is truly a gem. She is loving, generous, supportive and lives for her family, friends and community. Hopefully after watching her segment you feel even just a morsel of the love in her heart and the joy she shares with others through each bite of her delicious cookies.
